- The message is one that resonates with all of us who sometimes argue with our partners.
- The key is to recognize that it’s about a good relationship.
Sometimes we have arguments with our partner. We fight over things that are senseless and others that warrant a serious talk.
In the end, the important thing is to recognize that the person we are with, and ourselves as well, have the maturity to recognize mistakes and identify opportunities to grow.
This is how a relationship grows and can mature to go through different stages. The process is not easy, but it is very rewarding. Growing together is a great fortune.
We mention this today in Myths and Legends because it precisely has to do with the story we share below: The Cherokee story of the creation of strawberries.
The Cherokee Creator God

When giving life to man and woman, the Great Spirit gave them the Earth with all its goodness so that they would be happy.
So it was for a while. The couple was incredibly happy and professed great love for each other. But, over time, arguments arose.
Sometimes, they were not about important things, but little by little, the man became demanding. The woman also began to complain. That’s how the conflict started.
She yelled at her partner, and he did not like these acts. One day, the woman decided to leave and get away from her long-time partner.
The Woman Leaves the Man

One day, during an argument, the woman said she would no longer tolerate such attitudes from the man. She told him she would leave him, and so she did.
The man said he didn’t care. He was proud. At first, he enjoyed his solitude. He was happy to be in the privacy of his space.
However, he soon began to feel lonely and sad. He began to feel remorse for the way he had treated his partner.
He decided to go out and look for her and try to make amends. But something happened that prevented him from getting close to her.
The Man Cannot Approach the Woman

Every time the man tried to approach his woman, for some reason he could not reach her. He just couldn’t get close enough to her to talk.
The woman, for her part, was in a state of reflection about what had happened. She thought more when she went out to look for food.
Seeing the man sad, the Great Spirit took pity on him and said, «Would you like your partner to come back to you?» He replied, «Yes. I miss her very much.»
The Great Spirit took pity on the man and said, «Very well, I will help you find her.» He was very happy.
The Creation of Strawberries Guides the Way

As the woman went out in search of different kinds of wild foods, the Cherokee Great Spirit thought that this was the best way to reunite them.
First, the Cherokee Great Spirit tried to make a path that would lead her to the man. He made bushes full of blueberries bloom, but she completely ignored them.
His next tactic was with blackberries, but the woman was also not interested in these sweets. She continued her way through the forest.
Then, he thought of making another fruit that had not been seen before. So he created strawberries. The woman saw them and was amazed by their taste and said, «the man would like this.»
The Couple’s Encounter

She picked a whole basket of strawberries and decided to take them to her partner. The man was able to meet her. They resolved their problems and decided to stay together.
The sweetness of the strawberry had made the couple sweet again with both members. Again, happiness and calm were reigning in that lovely couple.
This story of the creation of strawberries is one that invites us to recognize that there can be conflicts, but it is important to recognize mistakes. Respect and apologizing is essential for a relationship.
